For CE marking there are various modules for Conformity assessment from internal production control (self-certified) through to using a Notified Body for Type Examination and/or certification of the production process. There is a similar procedure in place for UKCA conformity assessment using Approved Bodies.

Technology International can now support USA manufacturers with both Notified Body and Approved Body services for EMC and Radio certification services.

As we cover both CE and UKCA conformities we are a one-stop-shop.

Most of the time use of such a body is not required. However, if your product does not comply with harmonised/designated standards or because of the product features they are only partially applied then Notified Body/Approved Body involvement in the conformity process is required.

What is a Notified Body?

A Notified Body is an organization that assesses the conformity of certain products before being placed on the market. To date, it has been for compliance with certain directives where self-certification is not permitted. From January 2021 only Approved Bodies can be used to certify products for the UK and Northern Ireland markets.

Technology International offers notified body services through Technology International, Inc based in Richmond Virginia. The notified body number is 2863 and offers services to the EMC (2014/30/EU) and Radio Equipment (2014/53/EU) directives. These services should be used when a harmonised standards approach is not applicable for your equipment.

This can be part of the CE marking process for equipment.

What is an Approved Body?

This is the UK equivalent to an EU Notified Body and can give support for product certification in the UK and Northern Ireland.

How is UKCA Marking Treated?

For the UK, the equivalent organizations are now referred to as Approved Bodies and can only work towards UKCA approval. Technology International (Europe) Ltd now has Approved Body status with number 6035. It is a Type A Inspection Body accredited to ISO/IEC 17020:2012 and is accredited for this range of legislations:

  1. Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008,
  2. Mutual Recognition Agreements between the UK and Australia/New Zealand,
  3. Radio Equipment Regulations 2017 covering equipment such as industrial, scientific, and medical, private, and professional mobile radio, short-range devices, and products incorporating radio for transmit and/or receive.
  4. Electromagnetic compatibility regulations 2016 covering equipment such as industrial, IT, alarms, railway systems, domestic appliances, and other equipment.

How Technology International Can Help

If your products require assessment for CE and/or UKCA compliance, Technology International can examine your documentation and product, and issue the correct type of approval certificates for you to keep as part of the technical documentation requirements.

In some cases, manufacturers voluntarily choose to submit documentation for examination for various reasons. This can provide additional assurance to customers, or fulfill contractual obligations.
